After two technical delays on May 6 & June 1, NASA finally launched its Boeing Starliner into space carrying two astronauts on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.
Veteran astronauts Butch Wilmore & Suni Williams flied off Starliner Capsule to the International Space Station. Suni Williams message to radio station- “Let’s Go, Calypso. Take us to space & back”. They will spend almost a week at the orbiting lab & flies back from the boeing starliner into the earth as expected on June 14, 2024.
The third attempt is successful after two rounds of technical faults like small helium leaks, one in the port 2 manifold & the other in the top manifold.
As part of NASA Commercial program, this mission will help analyze various metrics like transportation system, in-orbit operations, rocket fuel usage, launch pad, usage of recycle spacecrafts for economic betterment. Before this starliner launch, boeing had already flewed two uncrewed orbital flights & both previous flight had successfully tested for to & from the space station. The Boeing aerospace company works in this mission for almost a decade.
Boeing came late into the spacecraft industry despite being into the aerospace’s field from the past 100 years. Boeing is now the SpaceX new competitor and will have more chances of successfully running this industry.
The spacecraft will automatically dock to the Internatonal Space station’s forward-facing port module as expected to be on June 6 at 12:15pm.
